Polyurethane Screeds & Coatings

UV-Stable Flexible Flooring Options

RESPOL provide a wide range of polyurethane screeds and coatings for installation in both commercial and industrial environments. Whilst polyurethane has many of the same qualities as epoxy resins, it differs in a few ways that make it more applicable for certain applications. Polyurethane resin screeds are hygienic, clean and easy to maintain, making it a popular choice in the food and beverage industry as well as pharmaceuticals and healthcare manufacturing. It is particularly well suited to having coving fitted around the edges, creating a sterile environment so that no bugs or bacteria can develop in the seal between floor and wall. It is also steam resistant, meaning it can withstand frequent steam cleaning, a useful factor for industries where stringent health and safety requirements call for maximum cleanliness. Polyurethane screeds and coatings are therefore a fantastic flooring solution for industries where hygiene is a number one priority.

Similarly to epoxy resin, polyurethane screeds and coatings are durable, hard-wearing and provide waterproof covering that protects concrete or other floorings from damage. This makes it a popular choice for manufacturing companies or other industrial applications where a tough, reliable surface is necessary. The screed or coating can be trowel applied or self-smoothing depending on the application purpose. Self-smoothing screeds offer a heavy duty, smooth finish and are great in clinical environments where an easy-to-maintain surface is key. Trowel applied screeds can be applied more thickly and have the ability to offer a hard-wearing system that can withstand tougher circumstances.

Another amazing benefit of opting for a polyurethane screed or coating is it’s much more flexible than epoxy coatings which are more hard and brittle. This elasticity means it performs better in extreme temperature conditions as the flooring can expand and contract with the variations in temperature, thus preventing it from cracking or debonding. This makes polyurethane a popular choice for certain applications such as multi-storey carparks. As well as its elasticity, it also has good impact and abrasion resistance, meaning it will be long-lasting and able to withstand the demands of many industries.

Whilst both polyurethane and epoxy formulas are chemical resistant, they are so in different ways. Polyurethane screeds and coatings are more resistant to natural chemicals, making it a great choice for the food and beverage industry where the spillage of natural substances is likely. Additionally, polyurethane is a UV stable resin, meaning it won’t yellow if exposed to sunlight, making it a fantastic option for exterior applications that may be exposed to the natural climate.
