Polyurethane (PU) combines the durability and flexibility of plastic with the elasticity of rubber. It, like epoxy resin, has a high-load-bearing capacity and optimal chemical resistance. PU flooring has an incredibly high temperature resistance, as well as abrasion resistance and high impact resistance.

- Typically, due to its durability, epoxy resin flooring is favoured in warehouse and garage environments, as it can withstand heavy traffic and the movement of heavy machinery, heavy loads and tools. It is also ideal for environments that handle harsh solvents and chemicals, due to its chemical resistance.
- Whilst epoxy floors are acid-resistant, polyurethane is usually preferred for food and beverage facilities, as it can better handle organic acids, such as fruit and lactic acid, than epoxy resin.
- Polyurethane flooring is also the better choice for industrial applications that require UV stability, as it is highly resistant to UV rays and colour fading. In contrast, resin coatings fare worse when exposed to direct sunlight.
- The same goes for impact and thermal resistance. Whereas epoxy resin is more brittle and prone to chipping under thermal shock, polyurethane boasts high impact absorption and expansion, even at high temperatures. This is because, as mentioned, polyurethane is more flexible.
- Both resin floors and polyurethane floors are easy to clean, due to their highly durable, non-porous finish.
- Both polyurethane and epoxy flooring have a high-gloss finish.
