Exterior Flooring for Car Parks, Driveways, or Paths

Exterior Flooring from RESPOL

When it comes to exterior flooring, there are plenty of options out there. Choosing the right outdoor floor solution for your environment is important. When specifically considering external applications, you should choose an option that is UV-stable, won’t degrade over time, and is robust enough to handle harsh weather conditions.

One of the best outdoor flooring options that we recommend is resin carpet. Find out more below…

What are resin stone carpets?

Resin-bound systems are made up of an aggregate (for example, stones) that is bound together by a resin. Unlike loose gravel, each stone is fully coated in the resin to ensure a stunning and seamless finish. These are durable yet flexible materials that provide long term surfacing solutions.

Where can they be used?

Resin carpets are a very popular modern flooring option for car parks, pathways, cycle paths, and most prominently, driveways. Replacing more traditional paved or gravel drives, resin carpets are favoured for their aesthetically pleasing finish, adding a touch of style to your drive. Used in both commercial and industrial settings, it can be a great option for private properties as well as business premises.

That being said, it can be a great choice for interior surfaces too! It can often be found in public buildings, schools, leisure centres, or other buildings where a durable and low-maintenance flooring solution is required. Additives can be added to the flooring to create an anti slip surface, a desirable feature for walkways that will be traversed often. It can also withstand frequent cleaning!

What are the benefits?

Weed-free and frost resistant

For a completely hassle-free outdoor flooring solution, resin carpet is the best choice. Due to its seamless finish, no pesky weeds can grow in the cracks. This guarantees a completely weed-free flooring, all year round! It’s also frost-resistant – a major benefit when it comes to winter.

Cost-effective

Whilst initial costs may be higher than floor tiles or brick exterior flooring, there are many advantages to choosing resin. As it is highly strong and durable, it can withstand heavy foot traffic and longtime usage without degrading over time. Whereas tarmac is susceptible to potholes, concrete is prone to cracking, and gravel can wear down and disperse unevenly, resin carpets are a maintenance-free solution that won’t be affected by wear and tear.

Decorative

A variety of decorative finishes are available to add a special touch to your design. A range of aggregates are available for you to create a design that is suited to your taste.

UV resistant

The type of resin used is always designed to be resistant to damaging UV rays from the sun as well as artificial lights such as street lights, meaning that over time there will be no discolouration. Non-resistant materials can be prone to yellowing, fading, or darkening when exposed to light which can ruin the overall appearance.

What about drainage?

You may be wondering how rainwater is effectively drained if the floor’s surface is seamless. This is super important as, without drainage, environmental issues such as downstream flooding or deterioration of river water quality can occur. Respol resin carpets are SuDS (sustainable drainage systems) compliant, meaning they are a perfectly safe and environmentally friendly option for outdoor flooring.
