Salts Healthcare Simply Floored by RESPOL
Salts Healthcare are the original provider of stoma care and orthotic products – one of the oldest family owned companies in the UK with a unique wealth of knowledge spanning 300 years. The rapidly expanding business called on Respol to provide flooring services for their manufacturing plant situated within their Birmingham headquarters.
The facility at Salts utilised a vinyl covering that was lifting at the edges causing hazards, although 95% of the healthcare and pharmaceutical industries tend to work on quarry tiled flooring, which also harbours bacteria in the joints and so is not ideal.
Whilst the company was still in production, Respol removed the old vinyl flooring and levelling compound and prepared the concrete sub-base by dust-free diamond grinding and stabilising any cracks. Their own EP550 moisture tolerant primer was then applied.
Salts Healthcare chose Reeflo, one of Respol’s low-slip decorative systems for the 1,800 sq metre area and requested a light textured finish to the floor, which was mixed using their corporate colours.
The Reeflo system is designed to overlay quarry tiles, timber, asphalt and other stable substrates and provides exceptionally hardwearing and scratch-free characteristics with warranty periods of up to 20 years available. It offers rapid installation within 24 hours to minimise disruption and is extremely decorative, available in a large range of colours to suit and match corporate company colour schemes.
The system is resistant to the strongest detergents, modern day chemicals and constant cleaning and is antibacterial, seamless and cove-able.
Respol’s single source supply and installation attracted Salts, who’s Head of Operations Lee Tretheway, was already aware of Respol, the quality of their systems and their workmanship.

It has worked like a dream. The flooring and Respol have delivered on both counts. We have a floor surface that meets our aesthetic expectations whilst being able to cope with the stresses of production.
From quotation to completion the whole project was executed seamlessly even though we changed the plan at short notice due to unforeseen circumstances. The whole process of removing the existing floor and laying the new floor was conducted during working hours without any disruption. The team worked in tandem with our own engineers and ensured the deadlines were met. As a result we have ordered the same system for our new manufacturing site.”
